Founded in 1878, the zoo has been extensively renovated and modernized since the 2000s as part of the “Zoo of the Future” project. Instead of traditional enclosures, there are now extensive landscapes that recreate the animals’ natural habitats – from the African savannah to the South American rainforest.

A day at Leipzig Zoo is like a short trip around the world – without an airplane. The zoo is particularly popular with families, school classes, photographers and animal lovers. Special events, night tours and themed days take place throughout the year.
The zoo is located close to the city center, just a 10-minute walk from the main train station. Parking spaces directly at the zoo are limited and often quickly filled – especially at weekends and on public holidays. Our central parking lot in Leipzig is the perfect solution: inexpensive, safe and with direct connections to the streetcar and bus – ideal for a relaxed visit to the zoo.
